Real Estate BarCamps Move Forward

Ricardo Bueno a.k.a. Ribeezie called me several days back and asked if I would help him work on an REBarcamp for Los Angeles. He also called Jeff Turner and some other folks. Luckily enough, he heard many of the same suggestions from everyone. My very first recommendation was to gather as many "ground troops" as possible before even getting started.

Wow. In just a few short days Ricardo pulled together at least 15 people, it may have been more, for a conference call to discuss the planning of the event, and what could be done differently to attract more of the folks that really need to be a part of this type of event. It was a lively discussion with great input from everyone. I think Ricardo and his team are well on their way to putting together a February REBarcamp to remember. Here's a link to the Facebook Group page. A dedicated site for the event will be forthcoming.

Along those lines, Todd Carpenter has pulled together a base site for REBarcamps. It looks great and is starting to come together with some good content. The purpose of this site will be to allow REBC's from all over the country to have a location in which to launch their events and share with other events the plans and follow ups. The purpose is to take what is learned from each event and have a living document that will allow for accumulation of successes (and mistakes) to create a best-of-breed platform for all to use. The site is being crafted in the spirit of the REBarcamp mission, it's owned by those who are active participants in the process, not by any one person or entity.

If you're considering planning an event, feel free to contact me ( mprice AT mlbroadcast DoT Com ) or leave a comment on the REBarcamp main blog for many of the other folks out there that can give you some guidance and assistance.

I nailed down the key adjectives of REBarcamp from the collective thoughts from the first two events. Synergy. Substance. Passion. & Sharing. That's what the format of these events are all about and I think there are some awesome people setting the pace for a movement that will carry on for some time.

Houston, We Have Lift Off! - REBarcamp - Texas Style!

A few weeks ago I started speaking with Lani & Benn of Agent Genius, Matt Kelly and few others about an REBarcamp for Texas. The idea to hold it in conjunction with the yearly HAR.Com trade show seemed like a good idea. It's now a cemented date of October 22nd and the wheels are in motion with the aforementioned folks along with Carson Coots, Ken Brand, Stephanie Edwards Mussa and Laurie Price as the beginning of a team charged with the task of keeping the REBarcamp momentum alive and well.

I have spoken to someone about a great facility in the Midtown area of Houston that is all but locked. As soon as I get the official green light we can announce it. Please add the date to your calendars and watch the REBarcamp.Com web site, we will be re-tooling it for the Texas event (and other REBarcamps) soon along with a new Wiki and more. If you want to volunteer, sponsor or have any questions, please email me at mprice AT mlbroadcast dot com or DM me on twitter @mlbroadcast. More information to come soon!

UPDATE: After having a few conversations we have decided to use #REBCH as the hash tag for this event. We have acquired separate domains for the events that will likely take place in other areas of the state as well. Since I went out of pocket at $7 bucks a pop, they will be released to the organizers of those events in exchange for a margarita or mojito and an acknowledgment to H-Town - Represent!
