Interview With AcreScout.com on Commercial Real Estate & The Web

One of my recent Twitter connections has been with Kent Shaffer. Kent is one of the founders of AcreScout.com, a commercial real estate portal. Commercial RE has always lagged behind the residential space when it comes to the web and its full potential as a business and marketing tool. I'm not aware of any notable moves to a web 2.0 model in the industry, including the biggest player, Loopnet, who operates under a basic search model. The goal of AcreScout is to develop a Trulia style platform along with a mobile tools and integration of social networking connections within their system.

Kent and I had a great conversation about the state of the web and commercial RE and AcreScout's ambitious business model. Enjoy!

Tons of great stuff happening on the REBARCAMP fronts lately. Right now as we speak (2/13) you can view a live streaming feed of some of the sessions thanks to Andy Kaufman and his Mogulus feed.

UPDATE: Now that the even is over I have removed the live feed link. Look for more streaming video of sessions in future REBarcamps.

Creative in Canda - 72HourOpenHouse.Com

Kye Grace, a Realtor in Vancouver BC had a challenge on his hands. It's a challenge keeping plenty of people awake at night - great listing, no traffic. With a little help from a friend Kye came up with the idea to hold an open house. It wasn't your average open house though. Kye created a concept, built a marketing campaign, generated some serious buzz, grabbed his sleeping bag and provisions and parked himself in his listing for 72 hours straight, ready to show to whomever came by, at any time during that period.

I had the opportunity to speak with Kye a couple of days ago. We talked about the results of his efforts and much more. Although Kye has only been an agent for a couple of years, he has some great insight and a good approach to building his business model. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.
