Gary Vaynerchuck - "It's Over...."

As promised, Gary Vaynerchuck of WineLibrary.Com took the time to create an episode for Mike's Mic today. We spent about 30 minutes discussing transparency, social media and more.
"It's Over! - The way people gather and are attached to brands has fundamentally changed"
Gary minces no words when he speaks to his beliefs regarding what it will take for a real estate professional, or any professional for that matter, to succeed in the future. He makes a very compelling argument for putting in the extra time and effort necessary to capture and keep long term market share using social media and new media publishing tools. Anyone can dominate or as Gary says - "Crush It". It's a matter of keeping an open mind and having the drive and dedication for doing things a little differently than you have in the past.

I have to say, having a conversation with @GaryVee literally took the wind out of me at times, but I enjoyed it very much and I think it provided a way for him to expound on his keynote address at Inman. Whether you agree with him or not, his passion is genuine and his success is a testament to his vision and timing. When it comes to today's real estate industry, the timing couldn't be better to get out of our own way and realize this isn't about technology at all. The technology is merely a tool that allows for an economy of scale in doing the same things that successful people have always done - a medium for a message. The same rules of learning, ingenuity and old fashioned hustle apply.

I hope you enjoy listening and I look forward to your comments.

Loved the podcast. I still need to do more commenting on local blogs and searching for local Twitter followers, but I'm working on it.

Also really liked the idea of using video to get local indep businesses to explain what is great about their communities. They'll get a plug for their business so they should be happy to comply.

I think I'm going to have to learn how to do podcasts too.

Listening to Gary is like lying in your bed on a Saturday morning and your mum coming in screaming to you WAKE UP SON!

Open your eyes, what you'll see is => opportunities everywhere, just pick the one you think you're best in.

I actually loved this interview... Gary steps in from outside of the "RE.NET" and lets Realtors know that Social Media IS a big mixer (the ultimate analogy) and you should be there.... mixing. Any excuses is simply one step towards failure...

Good info! I like the point about searching for blogs in your local area and joining in the conversation by leaving useful comments.

Interesting to hear from someone outside of real estate how he would market in real estate.

Nice interview. Found it on Gary's Twitter feed.

Favorite line - "It's a beast war out there"

There are a host of related social technologies/websites including http://outside.in and http://everyblock.com ... they aggregate many bits of "local" info including real-estate and neighborhood blogs.

I've taken some of these feeds and published them to Twitter for my neighborhood. http://twitter.com/plgbk

I'm just beginning to discover ways to engage the community and those interested in the neighborhood.

Gary's awesome - a social media giant, plus he's a wine lover. Winelibrary.TV is great entertainment.

Great interview Mike... Gary's passion about what he believes always comes through. The RE industry is getting onboard with the social media wave and the transparency such exposure demands; albeit slowly. The next generation of realtors will be more aggressive about definitely running with twitter and more...

I'm humbled by all of your comments and glad you've enjoyed the conversation. It's classic GaryVee - he has walked his talk from the minute I met him and that's what sets him apart from many people. Don't doubt for a minute that he will get a long term return on his investment in doing with me what many others would gladly cut him a big check for. It's huge to see that he puts it all into practice every day - his message is that we can all do it. I'd love to have everyone come back at a later date and tell me how you've been able to put it into practice for yourselves.
Best,
MP

I think Gary's example of the Real Estate agent not disclosing the cobble stone Driveway is poor.

Reason being. Its his buddy the Buyers Fault for not using a BUYERS AGENT and instead just using the listing agent (who's fiduciary is always to the seller, even in cases of dual agency).

So, Gary's buddy was foolish to not take advantage of the great BUYERS AGENT or Co-Broker services offered in every market in the USA.

Mike:
I am a newbie to your blog and your podcasts. But the podcast with Gary was great. The comment that you can not attend 13 events in an evening but you can stop by and become involved in 13 local blogs is an evening really hit home for me in regards to time management. Social media and blogging needs to be part of your business plan if you expect it to work.
